Most of the students at UTRGV get some form of financial assistance so they can help offset the cost of their education. In these, there are a lot of scholarships, grants, and possibly work-study and another institutional aid programs. You have to apply for admission first and then you are eligible to apply for the scholarships that are announced for the students in the university.
Types of Aid
There are a lot of financial aid that are available for the student depending upon the family income and your academic and extracurricular accomplishments to date. Financial aid is also available for students in several forms.
Scholarships – These are funds that are available for the students and they don’t have to repay the amount these scholarships are available for the students based on merit, need, and achievement in academics, athletics, the arts, or other scholarly areas.
Grants –These are grants that are available for the students and they don’t have to repay the amount these grants are available for the students based on merit, need, and achievement in academics, athletics, the arts, or other scholarly areas.
Loans – These are announced at the state and federal levels repayments that mostly start after six months when you have graduated or dropped to less than half-time status. Some loans are parent loan programs.
Work-Study – These programs and campus employments are announced for the students so they can earn when they are enrolled in the university which will help them to offset educational costs.
There are other types of financial assistance programs are also there such as institutional aid programs, tuition funding for military veterans and their families, and waiver programs from the state of Texas that give certain out-of-state or non-resident students to pay-in-state tuition.
Completing the FAFSA
There will be some big changes that are going to make in 24-25 FAFSA. For this year you are eligible to apply and is available in December.
The very first step that you have to follow in the financial aid program is to complete and submit the free application for federal student aid which is called the FAFSA. You have to apply online at FAFSA® Application | Federal Student Aid. Your FAFSA will help you to find how much financial assistance you need when you are enrolled in the university and what type of aid is available for you. You can apply for FAFSA in December.

Application Deadlines| UTRGV Financial Aid Office
The most important thing the students must have to know about financial aid is the deadline. You need to find the earlier you apply for the scholarship the better it will better. There are a lot of scholarships that are available for the students on a first come first served basis. So when you get to know about any scholarship you have to apply.
Financial aid funding is limited for many programs. So when you get to know about it you have to submit your details on time.
- FAFSA priority deadline: March 15
- TASFA state application deadline: March 15
- UTRGV scholarship application deadline: December 1
- Summer notification priority deadline: February 15
- FAFSA deadline for the current year: June 30
