The announcement is welcomed by the Malala Fund as it satisfies calls from civil society, educators, and campaigners in Pakistan for the government to move quickly on girls’ education.

The Malala Fund has committed over $12 million since 2017 to support local activists and organizations that work to remove obstacles to education that local girls confront. The main goals of this effort have been to promote higher-quality education, better school infrastructure in rural areas, and more digital inclusion. For the past two years, the Malala Fund has collaborated with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to increase girls’ access to STEAM education.

PM DIRECTIVES AND DECLARATIONS FOR THE NATIONAL EDUCATION EMERGENCY. The Ministry of Federal Education shall conduct a comprehensive review of out-of-school children and develop targeted interventions.

The Ministry of FE&PT will recommend to the Prime Minister the creation of a task force tasked with formulating and executing national and provincial strategies to address the crisis in education. The task force, which consists of bilateral and multilateral partners as well as provincial officials, will directly report to the Prime Minister’s Office.

National Conference on Education Emergency

In Islamabad, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to tackling this pressing issue during the National Conference on Education Emergency.

Prime Minister Sharif announced that he would personally supervise the program and work with all provincial chief ministers to ensure its successful execution during his speech to a group of federal ministers, lawmakers, vice-chancellors, diplomats, and development partners.
