Eligibility Criteria for Central South University Scholarship in 2024
The candidate must meet each of the conditions listed below to be eligible for the Central South University Scholarship:
- Language Requirement: Students applying to Chinese-taught programmes must get at least a 220 in HSK4 for scientific and engineering programmes and a 260 in HSK4 for programmes in the arts, social sciences, and medicine (a minimum of 200 in HSK5 is required for bachelor programmes in Chinese language and literature); Before beginning their programmes, students who do not reach the required level of Chinese proficiency must complete a one-year Chinese language preparatory course and fulfil the higher HSK criterion. For admission to programmes taught in English, students must get at least an IELTS score of 6 or a TOEFL score of 85.
- The following individuals are excused from demonstrating their language proficiency:
- Candidates for whom English or Chinese is the official language of the nation or their native language.
- Candidates who completed a degree programme where English or Chinese was the primary language of instruction.
- All nations throughout the world are eligible.
- Superb non-Chinese national, free of criminal history and in excellent health.
- Applicants for a bachelor’s degree must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; for a master’s degree, they must be between the ages of 18 and 35; and for a doctorate, they must be between the ages of 18 and 40 and hold a master’s degree or its equivalent. Candidates under the age of eighteen (18) must be at least sixteen (16) years old and have a legal guardian who resides in China.
- Postgraduate programme applicants must possess both inventive research skills and a solid academic foundation.

How to Apply for the Central South University Scholarship in 2024?
Please adhere to the guidelines below to apply for a scholarship at Central South University:
(1) Register for a profile on the university website and begin completing the application.
(2) Send the university the necessary application materials listed below:
- photocopy of passport (available for more than a year)
- Physical Examination Record photocopy (.pdf). Candidates must be rigorously examined in compliance with the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners requirement. A form that is not filled out is considered invalid. There will be an examination after December 1, 2023.
- A copy of the highest graduation certificate, or a notarized diploma translated into Chinese or English. If the candidate is currently enrolled in classes, the institution’s pre-graduation certificate is required.
- A notarized transcript translated into Chinese or English or a stamped transcript of the highest degree.
- A clean record or a document with official stamp translations into Chinese or English. The date of issuance will occur after December 1, 2023.
- For programmes taught in Chinese, your HSK transcript; for programmes taught in English, your IELTS or TOEFL results; or other documentation attesting to your language proficiency.
- Two separate letters of recommendation from associate professors or other well-connected academics. The signing deadline needs to occur after December 1, 2023. (Only recent graduates, please.)
- An 800-word or fewer study plan is required. Please elaborate on the history, methodology, significance, and content of your study. (Only graduate candidates please)
- written essays that have been published or any other supporting documents, such as the Acceptance Letter Format.doc (only for graduate applicants).

(3) An initial assessment of the applicant’s identification, language proficiency, physical and mental health, etc., will be conducted by the School of International Education. Following the first evaluation, candidates should pay the RMB 500 application fee using the CSU unified payment platform as instructed in the email (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay are accepted);
To proceed with the application, please pay the application fee within the next two weeks. If you are not approved after the initial screening, you DO NOT NEED to pay the application fee.
(4) Academic evaluation: Appropriate universities will evaluate candidates’ academic backgrounds, capacity for scientific inquiry, and potential for innovation in a thorough academic evaluation.
(5) Result Release: The final admission outcome will be communicated by admission email, contingent upon the application and review circumstances. THE FINAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS DEPENDENT ON THE EMAIL RECEIVED REGARDING ADMISSION! Additionally, the appropriate admissions notification and visa application form will be issued. The CSU China International Student Service System will provide information on the status of your application. Please make sure you promptly check your email and the Application System inbox.
(6) Annual Review: Every student receiving a scholarship will have their yearly evaluation determined by their daily and academic performance over the preceding academic year. If the review is passed, the student will still be eligible to receive the scholarship. The scholarship will be suspended otherwise.

Note:
(a) The aforementioned contents will be offered in either Chinese or English. Any other language materials ought to be notarized in either Chinese or English.
(b)If an applicant is born abroad and wants to be admitted as a foreign student, they must have a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate that has been held for more than four years. Additionally, within the last four years, up until April 30 of the admissions year, they must have proof that they have lived abroad for more than two years (the actual residence for nine months in a year can be calculated as one year). The computation is predicated on the stamps of entry and exit. It must be demonstrated that the Chinese nationality has been renounced.
(c) Regardless of the admissions outcome, the application materials will be used to register the majority of potential applicants, and neither the application money nor the materials themselves will be reimbursed. NOT THE SYSTEM INTERFACE OR THE ONE YOU APPLY, but rather the admittance email will determine the ultimate financial support. Kindly review the email that you were sent.
(d) The application screening process will be delayed by the winter vacation period, which runs from January 26 to February 27, 2024. Initial reviews typically take two to four weeks, and the applicable institution sets up the academic review period.
